Saola Tracks #2: EAZA Conference, WCN Wildlife Expo, New Supporters
Dear friends and supporters of Saola,
We are pleased to invite you to join Saola Foundation CEO Lorraine Scotson and President Bill Robichaud for some live online events in October. Please drop in to say hello, and join discussions about Saola conservation, the role of the Saola Foundation, and the task ahead to save this remarkable animal.
The first opportunity is this Friday, October 2, when the Saola Foundation will participate in a live poster session and Q&A (with some other presenters), during the Annual Conference of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). Leipzig Zoo was scheduled to host this year’s EAZA conference, but due to Covid concerns, the event has been moved online.
Thanks to EAZA, participation is free, although advance registration is requested, which you can do here: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJAtd-GupzkpHdHEAIpUJEnMcYK_wV5-uW4g.
After registering, watch for us at these times:
.
10:00 – 12:00 (noon) in the UK
11:00 – 13:00 Central European Summer Time
16:00 – 18:00 in Lao PDR and Vietnam
17:00 – 19:00 in Singapore
21:00 – 23:00 in Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney
(For our friends in North & South America and New Zealand, better you stay in bed for this one!)
Next up, on the second and third Saturdays of October (October 10 & 17), we will participate in the annual Wildlife Expo of the Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN). Normally held in San Francisco, this will also be a virtual event this year due to Covid.
All Expo events are open to the public, including live talks by luminaries such as Jane Goodall. The Saola Foundation will host a live virtual booth during these times on both Expo Saturdays:
08:00 – 14:00 US Pacific Daylight Time (09:00-15:00 Mountain; 10:00-16:00 Central;
11:00 – 17:00 Eastern).
16:00 – 22:00 in the UK
17:00 – 23:00 Central European Summer Time
And for those of you in Asia and points further east (at least until reaching San Francisco again…), your turn to sleep in!
This year, WCN has generously made entry to the virtual Expo by goodwill donation. Although you can visit the Saola Foundation’s virtual booth for free, please consider making a donation to the WCN, an excellent organization and good friend of Saola.

More gratitude
Once the Saola Foundation’s public launch last week, two additional institutions have joined in supporting us. One is Odense Zoo in Denmark, to whom we are most grateful (https://www.odensezoo.dk/en/about-us/odense-zoo/).
The second is our friends at Parco Natura Viva (and the zoo’s foundation, Animal Research Conservation in Action, ARCA), near Verona, Italy (https://www.parconaturaviva.it/en). Parco Natura Viva is perhaps the most conservation-active zoo in Italy, and we are delighted that they have joined the effort to save Saola, through support to the Saola Foundation.
Our sincere thanks as well for the generous financial support of Brent Huffman, a staff member of Toronto Zoo, and the heart, mind and soul of the Ultimate Ungulate website (http://www.ultimateungulate.com/).
Finally, we are most grateful to these other individual donors since our launch last week:
Jacob Brunner
Troy Hansel, in memory of Julia Settle
Roger Ruggeri
Jennifer Saminathen
Andrea Wagnor
We look forward to seeing and hearing from many of you at the upcoming online events!
